How to get rid of ammonia odor on clothes

Ammonnia is caused during exercise when your body starts burning protein. However it leaves stinky odor on fibre of your cloth causing unpleasent smell.

How to get rid of ammonia odor on clothes

1. Spray citric acid

Ammonia has alkaline properties. When acidic substances is added, it becomes neutral and the odor disappears. Citric acid can neutralize ammonia and make your cloth smell fresh.

To make citric acid spray just mix one teaspoon of citric acid powder in 200ml of water. Citric acid powder can be purchased from pharmacies.

2. Soak and wash with oxygen bleach

Oxygen bleach is helpful in removing various odor from clothes.

For woolen or silk clothes use liquid oxygen bleach otherwise use powder oxygen bleach. However, powder type oxygen bleach has strong deodorizing effect then that of liquid oxygen bleach

Liquid type oxygen bleach if the clothing material contains hair or silk.
If the clothing material does not contain hair or silk, use powdered oxygen bleach.
Powder type oxygen bleach has a stronger deodorizing effect than liquid type oxygen bleach.

Step 1. Mix hot water and oxygen bleach

Refer the clothing tag for upper temperature limit and use hot water accordingly else use hot water at 40 to 50 ° C. Put required bleach amount on hot water. For required amount of bleach you can see guide on package.

Step 2. Soak for about 1 hour

Soak stinky clothes for about 1 hour.

Please do not exceed sinking time limit written on bleach package.

Step 3. Rinse well

After soaking, rinse well to confirm no bleach and dirt remains.

Step 4. Wash as usual

After rinsing, wash in the washing machine as usual.

Step 5. Dry well in the sun

Lastly dry well in the sun.

3. Spray Meau

Hypochlorous acid consist in Meau helps to disinfect ammonia and deodorize it. In addition to ammonia, Meau has the ability to eliminate tobacco odor in clothes as well as various household odor.

Meau is neutral and leaves no strange odor after use. Beside clothes, it can be used to deodorize sofas and carpets and also can be used to disinfect cutting boards and kitchen knifes.
